A Prayer for Protection at Work

Asking God to guard your body, your integrity, and your peace through the working day.

From the Church’s tradition: Our work is meant to be offered to God — “whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord” (Colossians 3:23) — and the Lord guards those who place their labor under His care.

We spend a great part of our lives at work, and the workplace is not exempt from the things prayer protects us from — physical danger on a job site, the slow corrosion of integrity, hostility from others, the anxiety that follows us home. To pray for protection at work is to bring God into the place where we spend our hours and our effort, asking Him to guard not only our bodies but our souls: our honesty, our patience, our witness, and our peace.

Below are prayers to pray as you begin the workday and through it — for safety, for protection from harm and from temptation, and for the grace to do your work as unto the Lord. Pray them in the car before your shift, at your desk, or on the way to the site.

A Prayer for Protection at Work

Commending your safety, your integrity, and your day to God before you begin.

Heavenly Father, as I enter my workplace today, I bring it under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This is not merely a place of labor — it is a place where You have stationed me, and I ask for Your presence and protection here. Lord, I pray for: SPIRITUAL PROTECTION: Cover my workplace with the Blood of Jesus. Drive out every spirit of gossip, division, jealousy, manipulation, and deceit. Where there is toxicity, bring Your peace. Where there is injustice, bring Your truth. PHYSICAL PROTECTION: Guard me from every workplace hazard, accident, and harm. Keep me safe and healthy in this environment. RELATIONAL PROTECTION: Guard my interactions with colleagues. Let me be a light, not a participant in darkness. Protect me from unfair treatment, false accusations, and workplace politics. MENTAL PROTECTION: Guard my mind from stress that is not mine to carry. Help me to work diligently but to leave my work at work. Protect me from burnout and overwhelm. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." — Colossians 3:23 Lord, let my work today glorify You. Let my conduct reflect Your character. Let my excellence be a testimony of Your faithfulness. Saint Joseph, patron of workers, pray for me. Amen.

Protection in the Workplace

For guarding both body and soul through the working hours.

Lord, as I enter my workplace today, I bring Your presence with me. I may not be able to pray aloud or carry a crucifix on my desk, but I carry You in my heart — and that is more powerful than anything visible. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward." — Colossians 3:23-24 LORD, PROTECT ME FROM WORKPLACE TOXICITY: Guard me from gossip — let me not participate in it, and let it not wound me. Shield me from office politics that compromise integrity. Protect me from colleagues who would undermine me or claim credit for my work. Give me wisdom to navigate these situations with grace and strength. LORD, PROTECT MY INTEGRITY: If I am pressured to compromise my values — to lie, to cut corners, to participate in something dishonest — give me the courage to refuse. Let me be known as someone who does what is right even when it costs me. LORD, PROTECT MY CALLING: Whether this job is my life's calling or simply a season, let it serve Your purpose. Use me here. Let my work be excellent because I do it for You. If You have something else for me, open that door in Your time. LORD, PROTECT MY RELATIONSHIPS AT WORK: Help me to love difficult people. Help me to see the image of God in every colleague, every client, every person I encounter. If there is someone who is suffering silently, let me be Your instrument of compassion. LORD, PROTECT MY BOUNDARIES: Do not let work consume me. Protect my family time, my prayer time, and my rest. Remind me that my identity is in You, not in my job title, my salary, or my productivity. Saint Joseph, patron of workers, pray for me. Holy Spirit, be my counselor in every decision. Guardian Angel, accompany me through this workday. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A Morning Prayer for the Workday

Offering the whole day’s labor to God as it begins.

Lord, I am heading into work today. Whether I love my job or endure it, whether I feel appreciated or overlooked, I choose to see today's work as something sacred. "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." — Colossians 3:17 BLESS MY WORK: Lord, let what I produce today be excellent — not for recognition, but because excellence honors You. Let my attention to detail, my work ethic, and my reliability be a quiet witness to the character of the God I serve. BLESS MY COLLEAGUES: I do not always know what my coworkers are going through. The one who is always late may be caring for a sick parent. The one who is short-tempered may be going through a divorce. Lord, give me compassion. Let me be a source of light in someone's difficult day. BLESS MY LEADERS: Whether they are fair or difficult, wise or foolish — I pray for them. Lord, give them wisdom. Help them lead with integrity. And if they make decisions that affect me, help me respond with grace and trust in Your sovereignty. BLESS THE WORK ITSELF: Lord, You were a carpenter's son. You dignified manual labor. You dignified ordinary work. Remind me that what I do matters — not because the world celebrates it, but because You have placed me here for a purpose. PROTECT MY INTEGRITY: If I am tempted to take shortcuts, to exaggerate, to participate in dishonesty — strengthen my resolve. My reputation before You matters more than my reputation before anyone else. PROTECT MY BOUNDARIES: Help me work hard without being consumed by work. Let me be present at my job without losing myself in it. When the workday ends, help me leave it — truly leave it — and return fully to my family and my prayer life. Lord, I go to work today not just for a paycheck, but for Your glory. Let it count. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Bringing God to Work

Scripture never treats work as a place God stays out of. From the craftsmen of the Temple to the fishermen Christ called from their nets, labor is woven through the story of salvation, and the Christian is told to do it for God Himself: “Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Colossians 3:23). When work is offered to God like that, it can be placed under His protection like everything else we hand Him.

That protection is twofold. There is the protection of the body — and on a dangerous job, the prayer for safety is no small thing; the Church has always blessed laborers and their tools. But there is also the protection of the soul, which is just as real: the temptation to cut corners, to repay hostility with hostility, to let ambition or fear quietly reshape who we are. To pray for protection at work is to ask God to guard our integrity as fiercely as our safety, so that we come home each day not only unharmed but undiminished.

And it is to ask for peace — the peace that the workplace so often steals. We can offer the whole day to God as it begins, ask His holy angels to keep us, and let the labor itself become a prayer. “Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it” (Psalm 127:1, Douay 126): the work we entrust to Him is the work that lasts.

When to pray it

  • At the start of the workday — in the car, on the commute, or at your desk.
  • Before any task that carries physical risk.
  • When the workplace is tense, hostile, or full of temptation.
  • At day’s end, in thanksgiving and to lay the day’s burdens down.

Begin the day with God
