A Prayer for Protection at Work
Asking God to guard your body, your integrity, and your peace through the working day.
From the Church’s tradition: Our work is meant to be offered to God — “whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord” (Colossians 3:23) — and the Lord guards those who place their labor under His care.
We spend a great part of our lives at work, and the workplace is not exempt from the things prayer protects us from — physical danger on a job site, the slow corrosion of integrity, hostility from others, the anxiety that follows us home. To pray for protection at work is to bring God into the place where we spend our hours and our effort, asking Him to guard not only our bodies but our souls: our honesty, our patience, our witness, and our peace.
Below are prayers to pray as you begin the workday and through it — for safety, for protection from harm and from temptation, and for the grace to do your work as unto the Lord. Pray them in the car before your shift, at your desk, or on the way to the site.

Bringing God to Work
Scripture never treats work as a place God stays out of. From the craftsmen of the Temple to the fishermen Christ called from their nets, labor is woven through the story of salvation, and the Christian is told to do it for God Himself: “Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Colossians 3:23). When work is offered to God like that, it can be placed under His protection like everything else we hand Him.
That protection is twofold. There is the protection of the body — and on a dangerous job, the prayer for safety is no small thing; the Church has always blessed laborers and their tools. But there is also the protection of the soul, which is just as real: the temptation to cut corners, to repay hostility with hostility, to let ambition or fear quietly reshape who we are. To pray for protection at work is to ask God to guard our integrity as fiercely as our safety, so that we come home each day not only unharmed but undiminished.
And it is to ask for peace — the peace that the workplace so often steals. We can offer the whole day to God as it begins, ask His holy angels to keep us, and let the labor itself become a prayer. “Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it” (Psalm 127:1, Douay 126): the work we entrust to Him is the work that lasts.
When to pray it
- ✦At the start of the workday — in the car, on the commute, or at your desk.
- ✦Before any task that carries physical risk.
- ✦When the workplace is tense, hostile, or full of temptation.
- ✦At day’s end, in thanksgiving and to lay the day’s burdens down.
Begin the day with God
